What is HVI 22 hydraulic oil? ›

Hydraulic HVI 22 is a quality multigrade hydraulic oil, prepared from paraffinic mineral oil.

High viscosity index hydraulic oils (also referred to as HVI or MV oils) are specially formulated to maintain ideal viscosity over an extreme range of temperatures.

Hydraulic 22 is part of Crown Oil's range of premium-grade mineral-based hydraulic oils with good anti-wear properties providing protection in the most demanding of systems while still meeting ISO standards for hydraulic oil. This hydraulic fluid is rust, corrosion and oxidation inhibited.

ISO 22 Hydraulic Oil – ISO VG 22 Hydraulic Fluid is generally used in airlines for air tools etc. ISO 32 Hydraulic Oil – ISO VG 32 Hydraulic Fluid is ideal for use in high-powered machine tools.

Length and strength measurements High Volume Instrument (HVI) system provides measurement of length, uniformity, strength, elongation, micronaire, color and short fiber content.

The base oils on the high end of the scale are often referred to as having a high viscosity index (HVI). This relates to how much the viscosity changes with temperature, i.e., how much it thins out at higher temperatures and thickens at low temperatures.

AW-46 oil is thicker and has a moderate viscosity, so it is recommended for use in temperate climates where weather is not extreme. A hydraulic system operating in a cold climate, however, would operate better with a lower viscosity oil like AW-32 because the thinner oil will be less resistant to flow on start-up.

HV mineral oil: Mineral oil with anti-foaming, anti-corrosion, anti-rust and anti-wear performance having a viscosity index > 130; used for hydraulic circuits subject to strong temperature variations as well as load constraints and very high pressures.

As far as possible, it is always best to avoid mixing different hydraulic fluids. This is because the technical properties could be spoiled by chemical reactions between different additives.

Does it matter what hydraulic oil you use? ›

It doesn't matter how good the other properties of the oil are if the viscosity grade is not matched to the operating temperature range of the hydraulic system where it will be used. If you choose a viscosity grade incorrectly, your hydraulic components will degrade faster than they should.

32 is thinner, No. 46 is medium and No. 68 is thicker. Generally speaking, if the temperature is low in winter, use #32 & #46 hydraulic oil with a lower viscosity, and use #68 hydraulic oil with a higher viscosity in summer.

The most commonly used viscosities are ISO 32, 46, or 68, since these are able to lubricate and protect the system under the normal range of operating temperatures. Fluid viscosity should be low enough to optimize energy efficiency and fluid flow while high enough to minimize wear and optimize servo-valve operation.

Viscosity — generally, how thick the oil is — is the key factor here. If the hydraulic fluid is too thick, the machine will have to work harder to make its parts move. If the oil is too thin, the parts might wear down from added friction. Viscosity grade is dictated by the operating temperature of a hydraulic system.

Mixing oils with different additive packages is never recommended. Doing so could compromise the additive performance of both constituents, cause corrosion of component surfaces and lead to increased mechanical wear.

Super Hydraulic Oil MV22 and MV32 are high-viscosity index products with exceptionally low pour point and superior low temperature pumpability.

These HVI hydraulic oils are employed in hydraulic systems of excavators, cranes and hydrostatic drives subjected to most severe outdoor operating conditions, and hydraulic systems operating under high pressures and requiring high degree of load carrying capability and anti-wear protection.
